Officials in the northwestern province of the former Ottoman capital Bursa are carrying out special efforts. The main aim of the efforts is to ensure that tourists from South Korea visit the city more. They are also aiming to increase the tourism income of the former Ottoman capital. Bursa, by the way, is largely famous for its historical, cultural, and natural richness.
Turkey's Bursa: Former Ottoman CapitalBursa is the city where the Ottoman Empire originated. Due to this historical richness of the city, it entered the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014. The municipality aims to attract the attention of South Koreans to the city's cultural and historical areas. The most important area that comes to mind, meanwhile, is the Khans Area. The area includes the Orhangazi Complex and its surroundings, the sultan complexes. What's more, there is also a historical Ottoman village known as Cumalıkızık.
The most important tourism and travel agencies of South Korea have been including the city in the tour packages. This has been happening thanks to the great efforts and works of the Metropolitan Municipality and the Culture and Tourism Promotion Union.
According to data, 1.8 million tourists visited the city in 2019. Bursa Mayor Alinur Aktaş has set a target to reach a number of "5 million tourists" for the year 2024. In this respect, the municipality of Bursa province has recently prepared a promotional film. The film features the city's historical, natural and touristic attractions. So, South Korea's SKTV channel has frequently been airing this promotional film. What's more, the film has drawn great attention in the country. Therefore, this is great hope for the city dwellers and for the local authorities.
The world-famous South Korean artist Young-ho Yoo had gifted a "mirror man statue". The statue has been performing a duty of symbol of the brotherhood between the two countries. So, as a part of this growing relationship between the countries, local authorities also erected the statue in the Bursa Nation's Garden. The city became the third city in the world to host the same sculpture. Others were Seoul, the capital of South Korea, and Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
Bursa Mayor Alinur Aktaş said "I think it is meaningful and valuable to make this sculpture, which corresponds to Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi's saying "man is the mirror of man" in Bursa." He also noted that these activities will constitute the infrastructure of the city's recognition in South Korea.
